Outtake
I have been super busy with work since my return from the Bonneville Salt Flats. I have finally gotten up a selection on the Salt Flat photos on my main site, so if you haven’t seen them please go here to view.
One of the jobs we just completed was an ad campaign shoot for a private school. Great client, with a great agency, with great people. We had worked together last year, and this is a continuation of an ad campaign. I can’t really say much more about it at this point, but this is an outtake from that shoot. The shoot went very well, and everyone was happy. A big thank you to everyone involved.
Salt Flats
I just got back from Speedweek 2010 at the Bonneville Salt Flats, in Wendover, Utah. I met plenty of new friends, saw some incredible things, and was fortunate enough to get to hang with some pretty amazing people.
When I started planning the trip, I made some connections through a good friend and colleague and was fortunate enough to have Paul Livingston and his wife Becca Livingston graciously host me with their team. They were there helping Paris-Dakar and Baja 1000 rider, Francisco Arredondo, race a Suzuki Hayabusa owned by Chris Haines. To say I was in the midst of legendary people is quite an understatement. I want to extend a serious thank you to each and every one of these people and all their family and crew for having me out there and letting me spend a few days with them. It was quite an honor. Pictures of Francisco’s 204 mile run will be posted here very soon.
Along with the hanging with the Arredondo racing team, I took some time and went out and walked around. The slat goes on for miles and miles, and being from the East Coast, it was truly a surreal experience. Paul told me before i come out that seeing a sunrise there for the first time, was like being on the moon. He was exactly right.
I got a chance to witness my new Aussie friends break a world record by a huge 30 mph over the previous record.
I’m going to make a new section very soon on the website, but for right now here’s a picture of the takeoff during run# 1 of owner/ rider Mal Hewett, breaking that record. For you gearheads, the bike is a 1950 Vincent Rapide 1200cc, running in the Modified Partially Streamlined Vintage Gas class. Speed was 165+. (I’ll correct this as soon as I get the right info from Mal.)
Mal’s crew is made up of Bill Lockwood, Mark Hamilton, Colin Kranz, Shane Hicks and Paul Wilkins.
Update:
Got this text yesterday from the Aussies, who were still there in Bonneville racing at the motorcycle only event on the Salt Flats:
“Well folks we done it, we have now broken all four records that we were after. Mal has smashed the Southern Californian Timing Association record for modIfied vintage gas (151mph) and partially streamlined (160mph) by 50mph each and today we finished off with claiming the American Motorcycle Association records again in both classes. Upping the VG class by more than 30mph. Partially Streamlined previously open.”
Congratulations guys, well done.
